I keep on getting "Error 680: There is No Dial Tone" when I try to connect. What could be the problem? There are a couple of possible culprits for this particular problem. 1) The phone line is dead. Unplug your phone line from the back of the modem and plug it into a regular voice phone. If you do not hear a dial tone, then you will need to contact your telephone company. 2) The phone line is plugged into the wrong jack in the modem. Most modern modems come with two jacks to plug a phone line into. One is the jack for plugging in the phone line from the phone jack in the wall. This is the "LINE" jack. The other is for plugging in a regular telephone should you not have another wall jack to plug it into. This is the "PHONE" jack. Sometimes people get these two jacks mixed up. Try unplugging the phone line from the one jack in the modem, and plugging it into the other. 3) The modem has ceased to function. If the modem has been hit by a surge of electricity or if for some other reason the modem itself just stops working properly. This error can occur. The first thing that you can try to do is to reinstall your modem drivers. If this fails to solve the problem, you will need to contact your computer's tech support as you likely need to purchase a new modem at this point. |
